Pakistan’s top civil leaders marked the country’s 79th Independence Day with messages of unity, resilience, and hope, praising the nation’s ability to stand firm in the face of challenges.

From the President’s call to safeguard freedom and strengthen institutions, to the Prime Minister’s emphasis on economic revival and social harmony, the day was punctuated by pledges to honour the sacrifices of the founders and work collectively for a stronger, more prosperous Pakistan

President Zardari conveyed his felicitations to the people, highlighting the importance of national cohesion and the need for sustained efforts toward the country’s welfare.

He noted that the success in Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos reflected the country’s unshakable national will and unity of purpose. This victory, he added, has boosted public confidence, restored faith in national institutions, and elevated Pakistan’s standing on the global stage.

Zardari also voiced solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating Pakistan’s steadfast diplomatic, moral, and political support until their right to self-determination is achieved.

His message was carried widely by state media and reposted by Pakistani diplomatic missions abroad, underlining the day’s significance for the diaspora.

Similarly, PM Shehbaz extended “heartfelt felicitations” to the nation and led the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad. In his official Independence Day message, he underscored unity and collective dedication to Pakistan’s development.

I extend my heartfelt felicitations to the nation on completion of 78 years of independence of Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, at a grand Independence Day ceremony held at Islamabad’s Jinnah Stadium, extended a heartfelt olive branch by launching the Misaq-i-Istehkam-i-Pakistan, the Charter for Stability.

The prime minister addressed Pakistan’s political and civil society stakeholders, urging them to set aside partisan differences and rally behind a common national agenda.

Highlighting that the charter is more than an economic proposal, he emphasized its role in fostering collective purpose, while reaffirming that peaceful dissent is welcome, but lawlessness will not be tolerated.

Parliamentary leaders joined in the celebrations, with Senate Chairperson Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani issuing a statement through the Senate office on X, urging the nation to unite in purpose and commit to progress.

He said the sacrifices of elders and leaders will always remain a guiding light, adding that Pakistan is the fruition of Allama Iqbal’s dream and the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Protecting and preserving independence, he stressed, is the duty of every Pakistani, and progress requires working above political affiliations.

Provincial leaders also marked the day with flag-hoisting ceremonies and speeches in their respective regions.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz addressed the public and participated in official observances, urging citizens to take pride in the nation’s achievements and work towards future progress

The Chief Minister’s Office of Balochistan took to social media this Independence Day to pay respectful homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for a free Pakistan.

Their message echoed across the province, reminding citizens of the courage and devotion that paved the way for the nation’s independence, reinforcing a collective remembrance of those whose ultimate sacrifice secured today’s liberty.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah marked Independence Day by reiterating his government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens.

Speaking at a flag-hoisting ceremony, he stressed unity, justice, and social equality as pillars of progress, pledging to uphold democratic values and the vision of Pakistan’s founders.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur extended Independence Day greetings, hailing the sacrifices of security forces and the people of K-P. Calling Pakistan “our identity and pride,” he urged collective efforts for peace, education, and progress, and pledged to meet public expectations.

Meanwhile, a solemn and dignified flag-hoisting ceremony took place at the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Islamabad.

In the presence of Chief Justice Justice Yahya Afridi, fellow judges, court officials, and staff, the national flag was unfurled following the recitation of the Holy Quran and the singing of the national anthem.

The dignitaries also shared heartfelt moments with children from SOS Villages, distributing gifts as a symbol of goodwill and unity.

Pakistan International Airlines held in-flight celebrations across its network to mark the 79th Independence Day.

According to PIA’s social media feed and reports, the crew joined passengers in cake-cutting ceremonies, national songs were played on board, and children travelling on flights received chocolates as part of the festivities.
