President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday hailed Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s “unparalleled leadership and selfless struggle” in securing dignity and independence for Pakistanis.

On his 77th death anniversary, the day was observed with prayers, tributes, and a renewed pledge to uphold his principles of unity, faith, and discipline.

Ceremonies were held across Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), where social and civil society forums recalled Jinnah’s leadership in uniting Muslims of the subcontinent under the All-India Muslim League and securing a separate homeland.

The Government of Pakistan’s official X handle also shared a tribute, recalling Jinnah’s leadership.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani called Jinnah “a symbol of integrity, justice, and the rule of law,” stressing that democratic institutions and the people’s unity were the real strength to realise his dream.

“Every citizen, irrespective of religion, caste, or creed, must enjoy equal rights and opportunities — this was Jinnah’s belief and must remain our compass,” he said.

The day began in Karachi with Quran Khawani and Fateha at the Quaid’s mausoleum, attended by political leaders, officials, and citizens from all walks of life.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said Jinnah’s message of unity and resilience remained a guiding light for the nation. “Pakistan is the result of Quaid-e-Azam’s dream and sacrifices, which all of us must safeguard,” he added.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon linked Jinnah’s values of collective effort to present-day challenges following the recent rains and urban flooding. “This is a national emergency which cannot be dealt with by the government alone; public cooperation is extremely necessary,” he said while updating on flood relief efforts.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab also addressed the media on the occasion, pledging that development work halted by the rains would resume this Sunday. “If all stakeholders perform their role with sincerity, the city can move forward in the spirit of unity, faith, and discipline,” he remarked.

Public and private institutions, along with cultural bodies, organised seminars and talks highlighting Jinnah’s statesmanship and political struggle.

Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television aired special programmes revisiting his life and legacy.

Across the country, speakers echoed the same message: Jinnah’s vision of justice, sacrifice, and discipline remains the nation’s strongest roadmap in navigating today’s crises.
