President Trump arrives in Milwaukee for Republican National Convention, changes ‘great’ speech following assassination attempt | US News

Donald Trump has announced he will reschedule his planned speech at the Republican National Convention in the wake of the assassination attempt.

The former president arrived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for a convention the day after the shooter. Thomas Matthew Crookes Shots were fired at him from a rooftop during an election rally.

In an interview with the Washington Examiner During the flight on Saturday evening, Trump “The speech I was scheduled to give on Thursday was going to be epic.

“It’s going to be a very different speech, honestly,” Trump said, adding that it will be a message of unity to the country and the world.

The president’s plane landed at Milwaukee airport on Sunday evening, and he pumped his fist on the steps and was cheered on by his supporters as he drove in a motorcade to his hotel.

Trump said on his website Truth Social on Sunday that he would postpone his trip by two days because of the assassination attempt, but that he had “decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter’ or potential assassin to force me to change my schedule or anything else.”

“At this moment it is more important than ever that we come together, show our true character as Americans, remain strong and resolute and do not let evil win,” he said in another post.

“The reality of it is just starting to sink in,” Trump told the Washington Examiner about the shock of what had happened.

“I rarely take my eyes off the crowd. If I hadn’t done so at that moment, we wouldn’t be talking today.”

Trump is due to receive his party’s formal nomination at the Republican National Convention, which kicks off on Monday and is expected to draw thousands of Republicans.

The FBI said there are no known threats to the event or its participants, and the Secret Service said there are no changes to security plans.

The convention will feature speeches from rising Republican stars, a televised speech from Trump as his unannounced running mate, and an announcement that the party will take positions on issues such as abortion, immigration and the economy.

Trump is not scheduled to speak at the event until Thursday evening.
