Welcome to Playing Through’s new morning ritual: Golf Talk Today.
Each morning on “Golf Talk Today,” our staff discusses various aspects of the PGA Tour, LIV Golf and other professional golf tournaments.
Starting today, premature discussions begin about the 2024 Presidents Cup, as Team USA visits Royal Montreal Golf Club from September 24-29 to face Team International.
Following the huge success of the RBC Canadian Open, professional golf is set to return to Canada in 2024. North American golf fans won’t be disappointed, but is it too much for Americans to take on a home-town event?
In 2022, Team USA won their ninth consecutive Presidents Cup by a score of 17.5-12.5, improving their overall record in the tournament to 12 wins, one loss and one draw. The Presidents Cup doesn’t have the long history of the biennial Ryder Cup, but it still draws crowds.
This year’s U.S. team captain is Jim Furyk and the international team captain is Mike Weir.
According to the Presidents Cup website, six American PGA Tour players qualify through points. There is no mention of LIV Golfers, as they did not qualify last year. Points are added to the qualifying rankings at various events. Furyk will also be given six captain’s picks.

Many of the Ryder Cup team members from Rome could imagine themselves playing in Canada.
But will Furyk take a similar approach against Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson?
A more detailed discussion on who should be added to Furyk’s team will be available later on Golf Talk Today.
Hot takes from Team USA’s Presidents Cup
This take will be short and concise.
Bryson DeChambeau is a sure bet to make the U.S. Presidents Cup team.
Despite playing for LIV Golf, DeChambeau has had two top 10 finishes in majors and won the U.S. Open at Pinehurst. He’s playing phenomenally at the moment, and the former SMU golfer would be a great addition to the team.
