Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today file his nomination from Varanasi for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, seeking a third term from the constituency. A day before filing the papers, Prime Minister Modi held a 6km roadshow, promising to do more for the city-wide development if voted back to power.
“I am overwhelmed and touched! I didn’t even know how 10 years passed in the shadow of your love. Maa Ganga called me and said, Aaj Maa. Ganga ne mujhe god le riya hai (Maa Ganga adopted me today),” he wrote to X.

The Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency witnessed a historic clash in 2014 when Modi, then the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate, contested against AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Mr. Modi’s landslide victory, with a margin of more than 300,000 votes, solidified Varanasi’s place as a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Mr. Modi aims to extend that legacy in the next election.
Varanasi has five seats and is a battleground where the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress have been at loggerheads for years. Since 1957, the BJP has had great success winning the seat seven times since his 1991, but the Congress has also used its influence and secured six victories. The Varanasi seat has never been won by the Samajwadi Party or the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Prime Minister Modi won a landslide victory in 2014, and an even more overwhelming victory in 2019, cementing Varanasi’s place as a bastion of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The demographics of Varanasi are 75% Hindu, 20% Muslim and 5% of other religions. About 10 percent belong to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes make up 0.7 percent of the total population. Urban areas account for 65 percent of the population, and the remaining 35 percent live in rural areas.
“During the Congress and INDI alliance, this city of spirituality and faith has always been neglected, but we are working day and night with determination to build a sacred and magnificent Kashi,” PM Modi said. wrote to X.
“We have to do more in the third term of the NDA government for this constituency that is close to my heart,” he added. “As a servant of the people, it has always been my endeavor to make life easier for the people of Kashi.I have made an invaluable contribution in achieving a solution for a developed India, where a developed Varanasi along with a developed Uttar. I am confident that you will do so.”Pradesh.

Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh are also expected to attend PM Modi’s nomination filing.
PM Modi will begin the day with a spiritual journey by visiting Assi Ghat and offering prayers on the Ganga. Thereafter, the itinerary includes a visit to Kaal Bhairav Temple at 10 am followed by submission of nomination documents at 11:30 am.
The Prime Minister will then address at Rudraksh Convention Center at 1:10 pm and leave Varanasi at 1 pm.
Voting for the seventh and final phase of elections will be held in Varanasi on June 1, which will see a contest between Prime Minister Modi and Congress candidate Ajay Rai, who is facing the prime minister for the third time for the seat.
