WIMBLEDON, England — The Princess of Wales arrived at the All England Club on Sunday to watch the Wimbledon men’s final, her second public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis.

Kate, wife of heir to the throne Prince William, was due to sit in the royal box on Centre Court during the final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

She and her 9-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, arrived in a motorcade at the grass-court Grand Slam venue in southwest London about 30 minutes before the final was scheduled to start. The couple went onto the terrace of the club, which is connected to the main stadium by a walkway, and greeted several people, including 2021 U.S. Open champion Emma Raducane and other young British tennis players.

Kate wore a purple dress, one of Wimbledon’s official colours.

Since 2016, the princess has served as the annual patron of the All England Club, home of Wimbledon. Her ceremonial duties include handing over the trophy to the winner after the singles final, but she was not in attendance on Saturday when Barbora Krejcikova beat Jasmine Paolini to win the women’s singles title.

Kate revealed in March that she had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. Her only public appearance since then was at King Charles III’s birthday parade last month. Ahead of the event, she released a statement saying that she was “recovering well” but still had “good days and bad days.”

Prince William, a regular at Wimbledon finals, was scheduled to miss the event on Sunday, instead attending the men’s European Football Championship final between England and Spain in Germany. The prince is chairman of the English Football Association.

Queen Camilla, wife of King Charles III, visited Wimbledon on Wednesday.
