“Private” vs. “Official” Action in Trump’s Historic Immunity Case

CNN Political Briefing

April 26, 2024

24 minutes

This week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in former President Donald Trump’s historic immunity case. Trump’s lawyers have argued that Trump should be granted blanket immunity in federal election destruction cases because he is “officially” acting as president. With this November’s election potentially in jeopardy, all eyes are now on what the court will rule on, and whether the decision will be sent back to the lower courts for further judgment. Leah Littman, a law professor at the University of Michigan, and David Charian, CNN political director, break down the story and talk about what’s at stake.
