islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Muhammad Khan has alleged that the rigging tactics used in the February 8 general election were repeated in Sunday’s by-poll. He said polling officials were coerced in today’s by-poll, Pakistan-based Geo News reported.

Khan told the Geo News program “Naya Pakistan” on Sunday that his PTI had overwhelming support from the people and there was no need to rig elections.

Ali Muhammad Khan said voters in Punjab had voted in favor of PTI. But, he added, “someone else is announcing the election results.”

He said the election results in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were legitimate and called on political parties to file legal complaints if they found irregularities in the by-polls.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) official Rana Sanaullah said the turnout in the by-poll was a “big message” for the PTI, Geo News reported.

“PTI voters are not coming to vote today,” Sanaullah said on the same program. [during by-elections]”, he added, adding that the PML-N party is satisfied with the results of the by-elections and has always accepted the results of the polls.

Rana Sanaullah called on political parties to use relevant forums to address grievances related to the by-polls. He said the PML-N was contesting the election results “within the system.” However, he added that PTI founder Imran Khan was always trying to “bulldoze” the existing system.

Speaking on the by-elections held on Sunday, the PML-N leader said turnout in by-elections is usually low and only loyal supporters vote for the party they support.

Pakistan’s former interior minister expressed satisfaction with the by-poll and said results were pouring in from all polling stations and Form 45s. He said he would file a complaint if any irregularities occurred on election day.

Rana Sanaullah urged Ali Muhammad Khan to work with the PML-N to identify and address flaws through electoral reform rather than “bulldozing” the electoral system, Geo News reported. He asked them to cooperate. He further said that the PML-N has always worked for the betterment of Pakistan and called on political stakeholders to resolve issues through dialogue.

Labor of various political parties during voting for by-polls to 21 seats in the national and provincial assemblies amid suspension of mobile phone and internet services in various parts of Punjab to maintain law and order. Violent clashes broke out between the parties.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken note of complaints about the killing of a PML-N worker and the alleged abduction of a poll worker in a violent clash during the by-poll in Narowal, Punjab, and ordered action.
