Purdue outside hitter Eva Hudson is returning home from the Dominican Republic with some prizes in hand. The junior was part of the U.S. volleyball team that won the silver medal at last week’s NORCECA Women’s Final Six Pan American Cup.
The U.S. Women’s National Team qualified for Sunday’s gold medal game but lost 3-2 (25-15, 17-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-11) in five sets to the Dominican Republic. The team finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.
In the final against the Dominican Republic, Hudson had six kills for six points, as well as a match-high 16 digs and 16 impressive receptions.
Hudson was the only Boilermaker selected to the team — Purdue teammate Chloe Chicoine was listed as an alternate for the event — but the Big Ten was well represented in Santa Domingo.
Half of the roster (seven players) included players who are on the Big Ten Conference roster for 2023: Merritt Beeson (University of Nebraska), Carter Booth (University of Wisconsin), Sarah Franklin (University of Wisconsin), Taylor Landfair (University of Nebraska), Jess Mrzyk (Penn State), Lexi Rodriguez (University of Nebraska) and Hudson (Purdue).
Below are the results of the Pan American Cup.
Hudson is a two-time All-Big Ten first team selection, having received the honor in each of her first two seasons with the Boiler Markers. Last year, she led Purdue to a 23-9 record, including a 15-5 mark in Big Ten play.
Purdue also advanced to the third round of the NCAA volleyball tournament, where it lost to Oregon.
Hudson and the Boiler Markers will kick off the 2024 volleyball season on Friday, August 30 against Kansas State University. The match will take place at Holloway Gymnasium in West Lafayette, Indiana.
