Polish medical technology company Quantum Innovations has raised around €10 million in its second funding round.
A team led by Grzegorz Swirski, MD, PhD, has developed the world’s first sensor technology to monitor organs during surgery and transplantation.
Advances in medical technology have significantly improved the success rate of cardiothoracic surgery and reduced complications and mortality. Surgery, especially involving internal organs, requires extreme precision and continuous monitoring – capabilities that are not available with the tools and equipment currently available.
Quantum Innovations aims to fill this gap.
The company’s Heart Sense solution enables real-time ECG monitoring directly from the surface of the beating heart.
Additionally, Heartguard technology tracks tissue metabolism, including during periods when the heart is stopped for cardiac surgery.
“Quantum Innovations is a game changer,” said Grzegorz Suwalski, founder and CEO of Quantum Innovations.
“Heart Sense technology makes it possible to examine the electrocardiogram of the operated heart directly from its surface, from any location on the heart and from any wall.
“Heartguard technology, on the other hand, monitors the metabolically dependent acidification of the heart. Research has shown that using this data, cardiac teams can overcome knowledge gaps and prevent dangerous complications and deaths for their patients.”
Vinci IQ ASI, a fund established by BGK and managed by Vinci SA, led the financing, with participation from the company’s existing investor, MedTech Holding.
Piotr Woliński, President of Vinci SA, said:
“Our decision to invest was primarily driven by the groundbreaking product and technology, as well as the team’s hands-on experience.
The solutions proposed by QI address unmet needs in clinical practice during cardiothoracic surgery. Introducing these solutions into the standard of care has the potential to significantly reduce complications and perioperative mortality associated with cardiac surgery.”
The funding the Quantum Innovations team is currently raising will help develop and set up a production line in a cleanroom environment, as well as carry out the necessary certifications, including regulatory and human clinical trials, to help bring the product to the global market.
