Quiet leave is a workplace trend where employees take time off work without telling their boss. This trend is popular among the younger generation. Instead of taking advantage of their paid time off, they spend their energy creating the false impression that they are working. Read on to find out why this workplace trend is gaining popularity.

The reason you’re not telling your boss that you’re taking time off is to avoid the impression that you’re slacking off. People who take quiet vacations are smart because they’re very conscious of their image at work.

Harris Poll, an American market research and analytics company, conducted a poll and found that about 78% of American workers, especially millennials and Gen Z, don’t use all of their paid time off (PTO). Wondering why? Libby Rodney, the company’s chief strategy officer, explained that young professionals don’t use all of their PTO because they don’t want to be perceived as “lazy” by their bosses or supervisors by applying for time off.

You might be wondering how employees can create the false impression that they’re working while enjoying their break. Experts use all sorts of hacks to fool their bosses, from scheduling emails to be sent during working hours to periodically moving their computer mouse on the company messaging platform to give the impression that they’re working.

Many of you may be wondering why young professionals are not taking advantage of paid leave and reporting such tactics. Well, it could be due to the fact that many professionals feel guilty or anxious before applying for leave from their boss. Does this mean that the culture of the workplace needs to change so that employees do not have to hesitate or think twice before applying for leave?
