Raw Dogging: What is this Travel Trend? Is it Beneficial? | Travel

Have you ever been on a plane and not used any device to kill time except glancing at the in-flight map? If so, then you are “low dogging”. It is a new travel trend that many are following these days. Low doggers avoid all entertainment options on the plane including movies, music, reading, food and sometimes even water. On various social media platforms, people are posting updates of their “personal bests” after taking a low dogging flight, shunning all the temptations around them. Interestingly, the term was previously used to mean unprotected intercourse, but now it has spread across the internet for an experience that many are calling “meditative and challenging”.

How to do nothing?
Those who support the trend talk about the satisfaction of “overcoming the temptation to stay distracted” and the satisfaction they feel after landing. But how do they do it? Some passengers just meditate, check in with their fellow passengers, or go down memory lane to reflect on things, while others only see it as a “mental health test” to see where their mind takes them. Interestingly, this is not just about staying away from devices, food and drink. Reading, sleeping, or even talking to fellow passengers are considered “cheating” if you consider this a way to take it easy and enjoy the flight. According to the social media “experts” of the trend, staying awake and doing nothing counts as a low-dogging score.
Hydration is important
Aviation health experts say that if your health is more important than social media glory or another “raw dog” record, you shouldn’t shy away from hydration during your flight. A glass of water every hour and occasional stretching is recommended to keep your body relaxed, hydrated, and healthy after the flight.
