Police push for enhanced protection of key installations, Chinese experts; Special Branch tasked with citywide audits

RAWALPINDI:

Proposals to install anti-drone systems and modern anti-drone guns have been put forward at a meeting of the Regional Coordination Committee in Rawalpindi.

Senior police officers proposed installing anti-drone systems and guns to ensure the security of sensitive installations, buildings, as well as of Chinese experts and projects. The meeting was convened under the chairmanship of the Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi, Khalid Hamdani.

“The Special Branch Rawalpindi has been instructed to conduct a fresh security audit of housing societies, including their staff and security guards. It has [also] been directed to carry out a comprehensive and indiscriminate security audit of all housing societies,” he said.

SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob, SSP Investigation Nasir Ali, all divisional SPs, and officers and representatives from relevant institutions attended the session.

The security of Chinese projects and locations where Chinese experts work, reside, or frequently visit was also reviewed. To counter emerging security threats, it was suggested that anti-drone systems and anti-drone guns should be installed at such locations, installations, and workplaces of Chinese engineers so that any potential threat can be dealt with promptly.

“Verification of employees and private security guards of housing societies should also be made mandatory”, Khalid added.

All stakeholders have been instructed to remain vigilant and play an active role in identifying, reporting, and addressing security concerns, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.

The importance of timely information sharing should be recognised as a collective responsibility to ensure security. “All units have been directed to keep the records of Chinese experts and residents updated continuously,” Khalid said.

The Special Branch has also been tasked with conducting a comprehensive survey to identify potential threats and mitigate them.
