The U.S. Women’s National Team is scheduled to take to the field in early June for two friendlies, and two Chicago Red Stars players will be joining the club.
Defender Sam Staab has been named to the U.S. camp roster for the first time in his career, according to a press release Tuesday. She will join Red Stars forward Mallory Swanson in camp, who was forced to miss most of last season due to a knee injury.
Swanson played in nine games for the Red Stars this season, recording three goals and two assists.
Swanson played in 63 career games for the United States and scored 22 goals, including one goal and an assist in three World Cup games in 2019. She missed the 2023 tournament due to injury.
Staab has two assists in 10 appearances for the Red Stars this season and four goals and six assists in 100 NWSL career appearances with the Red Stars and Washington Spirit.
United States national team goalkeeper Alyssa Neher suffered a thigh injury during the NWSL season and was removed from the team.
The U.S. women’s team is scheduled to play South Korea in two friendly games in early June, including one on June 4 at Allianz Field in St. Paul.
Later in the summer, Team USA will take on Mexico in New Jersey and Croatia in Washington, D.C., in final preparation for the 2024 Olympics.
Meanwhile, the Red Stars are scheduled to take on Racing Louisville FC in suburban Bridgeview on Saturday night, with kickoff scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m.
