  • Netflix’s Reed Hastings will donate $7 million to a super PAC supporting Kamala Harris’ presidential bid.
  • Hastings told The Information that it is the largest donation he has ever made to a single candidate.
  • Harris’ campaign raised $81 million in the 24 hours after endorsing Biden on Sunday.

Sen. Reed Hastings on Tuesday fully endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid.

The Netflix co-founder and chairman donated $7 million to a super PAC with ties to Harris, The Information reported.

He told the outlet that this is the largest donation he has ever made to a single candidate.

A representative for Hastings at Netflix declined to comment further about his donation.

Hastings was initially hesitant to endorse Harris after President Joe Biden ended his campaign and handed the baton to her.

“Democratic delegates need to pick the winners of battleground states,” Hastings wrote on Sunday X shortly after Biden’s announcement.

But Harris quickly solidified support within the Democratic Party and secured enough delegates to clinch the nomination on Monday.

She meets the threshold of winning 1,976 delegates, according to calculations by CNN, Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal.

Harris also quickly secured the support of key Democratic figures, including Representative Nancy Pelosi, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Shortly after Harris secured the required number of Democratic delegates, Hastings congratulated her on her victory in the X election and voiced his support for her run in 2024.

Hastings was one of several major Democratic donors who publicly called on Biden to drop out of the race.

“Biden needs to step aside and allow strong Democratic leadership to defeat Trump and get us all safe and prosperous,” Hastings wrote in an email to The New York Times, as reported on July 3.

Billionaires and business leaders have also begun voicing their support for Harris, including Alex Soros, the son of investor George Soros and chairman of Soros Fund Management.

“Now is the time for us all to unite behind Kamala Harris and defeat Donald Trump. She is the best and most qualified candidate we have. Long live the American Dream!” Soros posted on X following Biden’s announcement.

Melinda French Gates has also endorsed Harris, citing the vice president’s record of support for abortion rights.

As the endorsements pour in, Harris’ campaign is also raising money from major donors: She secured a record-breaking $81 million in contributions in the first 24 hours of the campaign.
