In the latest episode of our Hollywood House Call series, the Home Edit team Legally Blonde We visited the actress’ Los Angeles home and were not only wowed by her impressively organized makeover, but also her sleek kitchen.
Featuring deep blue hues throughout, her stylish space is a bold embrace of this year’s biggest color trend. Not only does it wrap around the modern navy blue kitchen cabinets, but the same hue can also be found on the windows, doors, and baseboards, enveloping the entire room. (And if that’s not enough, the rest of her home also carries the color motif.)

While the idea of a bold kitchen colour may not be to everyone’s taste, Nina and Helen agree that it’s all in how you use it. “The cool tones of the blue balance the earthy tones of the brick, creating an aesthetically appealing and harmonious look,” says Nina. “The contrast also highlights the unique characteristics of each material, allowing each individual material to shine while still contributing to the overall design cohesion.”

Benjamin Moore announced Blue Nova, a deep, neutral blue like the one seen in Reese’s kitchen, as its color of the year for 2024. And it’s not the only paint brand to opt for a blue hue: Sherwin-Williams, Valspar, and Minwax have all chosen blue to represent the mood of the era, and designers are embracing the color trend head-on.

If you’re inspired by Reece’s space, Helen and Nina have some advice: “When using blue in your home, use a warm neutral such as Blue Nova 825 to instantly create a sense of comfort and security,” Helen advises. “This deep shade of blue works in any room in the home – in south-facing spaces it will balance the intensity of sunlight, and in north-facing rooms it will create a warm, inviting feel, especially when contrasted with the rustic warmth of exposed brick.”
“Combine different materials, like gold metal open shelves and wooden floors, to add texture and depth,” adds Nina. “Mixing materials will make the space more dynamic and visually interesting. Also, incorporate warm accents, like gold metal shelves, gold hardware on the cabinets, gold paper towel holders and gold silverware. These warm touches will contrast beautifully with the cool blue tones to create a sophisticated feel.” There are so many colors that pair well with blue, so the combination possibilities are endless.

Nina attributes this to the deep blue’s versatility and timeless appeal. “It exudes calm and tranquility, while also making a bold statement without overwhelming a space,” she says. “It pairs well with a variety of materials and colors, offering a sophisticated yet accessible aesthetic that appeals to modern sensibilities.”
