Reham Khan says Imran Khan could get relief if he ‘begged for mercy’

Reham Khan, politician and former wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, has said that he may receive some relief if he “begs for mercy,” but keeping him in jail for an extended period is unlikely.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, she criticised the political focus on Imran Khan’s bail. “Everyone is obsessed with one person’s bail. But why is there so much concern? Even Trump will help the prisoner,” she remarked, without naming Imran directly.

Reham highlighted former US President Donald Trump’s loyalty to his allies. “Trump stands by his friends. Three trillion dollars were behind him. Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and X, and even the owners of Meta and Amazon supported him,” she said.

However, she dismissed the idea that powerful global figures would back Imran Khan. “People who shape the progressive world do not waste their time on failed and deposed leaders. They don’t make bad investments.”

Reham said that mere letters of appeal would not be enough to secure Imran Khan’s release. “If he begs for mercy, maybe he’ll get some relief. But I don’t see him being kept in jail for too long,” she claimed. “He hasn’t even completed two years yet. No career politician has been imprisoned for such a long time.”

She also alleged that no friendly country was willing to take in Imran Khan. “Even if Western countries are eager to shelter him, the establishment will not let him leave.”

Reham revealed that she plans to form her own political party rather than join an existing one. She criticised PTI’s past media policies, claiming she was banned from TV during their rule.

She dismissed any personal interest in Imran Khan or PTI’s politics, stating, “I don’t follow any news about him, nor am I interested.” She also mocked the idea that Imran had written letters seeking clemency, saying, “Were they written with ink or with his nose?”

Reham claimed she had personally witnessed PTI leaders “begging for mercy” and suggested that similar actions might lead to Imran Khan’s eventual release.

Turning to national politics, she criticised the current state of governance. “There is no government visible in Karachi, and Lahore is not clean. Governance means making people’s lives easier.”

She also accused the PPP of staying in the background while the PML-N bore the brunt of the government’s responsibilities. “Whoever is in power now will complete their full five-year term.”

Reham expressed sympathy for PTI’s supporters, calling them “innocent people who were misled.” However, she made it clear that her sympathy did not extend to the party’s leadership. “If I had any sympathy for PTI’s leadership, things would have been different,” she said.
