Report: Giants’ Snell interested in trade with Yankees and Padres originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
There are several teams that could be interested in Giants left-handed pitcher Blake Snell ahead of the MLB trade deadline on July 30.
One of them lives in the National League West.
The New York Yankees and San Diego Padres are among six teams that have inquired about Snell’s availability to San Francisco, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Sunday.
NEWS: Yankees are one of 6 teams keeping an eye on Blake Snell. Snell had a dominant performance on Saturday (15 strikeouts) while the Giants listened. San Francisco’s starting pitching is on fire right now and is just 4.5 back from the WC. OTHER ISSUE: NYY is in the highest tax bracket and BS has a $30M player option for 2025.

The ultra-aggressive Padres are one of six teams keeping an eye on former pitcher Blake Snell, who won his second Cy Young Award in 2023. San Francisco is also doing well right now (and Snell dominated Saturday), so a potential trade for B.S. remains up in the air.

Snell has been on a roll since returning from the disabled list for the second time this season on July 9, striking out a career-high 15 batters in Saturday’s win over the Colorado Rockies at Oracle Park and recapturing his National League Cy Young Award-worthy form.
After the game, Snell was asked by reporters about hearing his name in trade rumors and responded matter-of-factly.
“We just have to win,” Snell said of the rumors. “If we win, I’m not going anywhere. At least that’s what I believe. I don’t know, but I’ve seen some crazy things happen.”
As Heyman points out, it’s unlikely the Giants would trade Snell to San Diego, a division rival and fellow NL wild-card contender who is four games back of San Francisco for the second of three wild-card spots.
But if the Padres come up with a tempting offer, should president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and Co. consider it?
