Report: Kings offered Brown a ‘competitive’ three-year contract, first published by NBC Sports Bay Area

The Kings and head coach Mike Brown have exchanged contracts, but the two sides have not yet come to an agreement on a contract extension.

Sacramento offered Brown a three-year, $21 million contract, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Thursday night, citing sources.

The Sacramento Kings have offered head coach Mike Brown a contract extension, a three-year deal through 2026-27 worth $21 million, with a maximum of $27 million with bonuses, according to sources. No agreement has been reached so far. Brown is believed to be seeking around $10 million per year.

Charania reports that the Kings’ offer includes bonuses that could bring the total contract value to as much as $27 million.

Charania said Brown wants a contract worth at least $10 million per season.

This latest report comes six days after ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Brown and the Kings had shelved talks due to a negotiation impasse.

Brown has one guaranteed year left on his current deal and is seeking a contract that would make him the highest-paid coach in the NBA.

The Los Angeles Clippers and head coach Ty Lue agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract extension on Wednesday, Charania and The Athletic’s Lo Murray reported, citing league sources.

The Kings have a big offseason ahead of them, and one of the first things they need to do is figure out what Brown’s future holds.

At this point, there seems to be a big gap between the terms of the contract between the two parties.
