Republican isolationist tendencies are dangerous – Twin Cities

The United States and Republicans averted geopolitical disaster a week ago Saturday when the House passed military aid to allies in Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific. But this moment should not pass without highlighting members everywhere who opposed U.S. support for allies and voted against replenishing U.S. arms stockpiles.

Fourteen Republicans voted against all four bills on the House floor, including one that would force the sale of TikTok from its Chinese owners. Below are the Dishonored rolls listed in alphabetical order.

Andy Biggs (Arizona), Lauren Boebert (Colorado), Andrew Clyde (Georgia), Elijah Crane (Arizona), Matt Gates (Florida), Bob Good (Virginia), Paul Gosar (Arizona), Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia), Andy Harris (Maryland), Thomas Massey (Kentucky), Troy Neals (Texas), Ralph Norman (South Carolina), Matt Rosendale (Montana State), Chip Roy (Texas State).

These senators are in Republican-dominated districts, so it will be difficult for Democrats to defeat them. But Boebert and Goode face competitive primaries that could end their disastrous legislative careers.

The unavoidable implication of this vote is that these member states believe the United States should not support allies threatened by authoritarians on the march. Like the Republicans of the 1930s who slept while Hitler and Tojo advanced, these Republicans apparently think America can weather these battles in great isolation.

But history suggests that if they win, America’s sons and daughters will ultimately have to fight. It is better to help allies who want to help themselves.

Although the isolationist caucus has lost this time, this Republican trend is dangerous.

Another 17 members voted for arms against Israel but not for Taiwan or Ukraine.Do they want to encourage Chinese aggression?

Perhaps an attack on Florida will wake them up to the reality of the world’s increasing danger.
