BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Economic development nonprofit REV Birmingham will be holding two town hall meetings next week about the expanded Business Improvement District (BID).
According to REV Birmingham, Birmingham City Council approved city ordinance amendments in December to expand the Downtown Birmingham BID to two more sub-districts: Five Points South and The Switch. City Action Partnership’s (CAP) Clean and Safe programs, neighborhood management, promotions and other services will soon be rolled out to each sub-district.
The Five Points South town hall will be held Monday from noon to 1pm at Highland United Methodist Church, and the Switch District town hall will be held Friday from noon to 1pm at Innovation Depot.
“We believe the services the BID provides, especially the implementation of CAP, will make a lasting difference in these neighborhoods,” Rima Patel, co-owner of Birmingham Apothecary and new Downtown BID board member, said in a statement. “But for that to happen, our community needs to understand their role as well, and I look forward to seeing many familiar and new faces next week.”
REV Birmingham manages the BID under contract with the Downtown Birmingham BID Board. Each new sub-district has formed a Community Advisory Group and appointed a Board member to represent each sub-district. Board members implement the sub-district goals and budget.
