Boxer Ryan Garcia was arrested Saturday at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Beverly Hills on suspicion of felony criminal damage to property, according to Beverly Hills police.

Lt. Chris Coulter said hotel representatives initially estimated Garcia caused more than $15,000 in damages.

Under California law, vandalism can be a felony if the damage exceeds $400.

Ryan Garcia reacts to Devin Haney in their WBC super lightweight title fight at Barclays Center.

Police responded to a call from the hotel around 8:15 p.m. ET and subsequently arrested Garcia, Coulter said.

Coulter said Garcia, 25, had “health issues” and was taken to a hospital, where he has since been released. Coulter said he did not have any further information about the health issues.

Beverly Hills Police released a statement on Sunday saying they responded to a report of an “intoxicated individual” and that after an investigation, Garcia was identified as the intoxicated individual.

Garcia was a registered guest at the hotel and caused damage to a guest room and hotel hallway, according to the statement, and the hotel has requested Garcia’s arrest on charges of criminal damage to property, the statement said.

In a statement to USA Today Sports, Lt. Col. Andrew Myers said he did not know the total damage estimate or the exact circumstances.

Garcia will be notified of his court date and the case will be presented to the district attorney’s office, which will decide whether to file formal charges, Coulter said. Coulter said he did not know the court date.

The arrest comes at a tumultuous time for Garcia, who is facing a possible suspension after testing positive for a banned substance the day before and the day of his April 20 bout against Devin Haney.

Garcia had exhibited erratic behavior in the weeks leading up to the bout, which he won by majority decision.

Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Garcia, did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
