Santa Fe Christian School revives beloved tradition, Senior Business Week

The aromas of Raising Cane’s, Board & Brew and City Tacos filled the Santa Fe Christian campus last week as the highly anticipated Senior Business Week kicked off, according to a news release.

“Senior Business Week is an end-of-year economics project where students work in groups of about six to create a product that can be resold for the Santa Fe Christian community,” SFC senior Hudson Taylor said in a news release.

The project requires students to partner with local businesses to gain real-world experience working at popular area eateries.

Groups are split into roles such as CEO, CFO, CMO, HR, etc. to learn the real-world challenges of running a business. This year, students in each role met with SFC leaders to learn more about their day-to-day duties. Groups then work together to come up with a business and present it to a panel of entrepreneurs. The group that raises the most funds will be able to donate a class gift to SFC.

“It’s really fun to get some hands-on experience. The experience we gained is definitely paying off and it was a lot of fun,” senior Brynn Henson said in a news release.

This is a project that tests the communication, planning and execution skills of senior students before they graduate and move on to their next jobs.

“Senior Business Week has a long-standing tradition of providing students with the opportunity to gain experiences and skills that will help prepare them for life after high school,” SFC high school teacher Billy Thompson said in a news release. “Problem solving, communication and teamwork are some of the life skills students will develop as they learn how to run a business for a week.”

It’s a project SFC students look forward to years before they reach their senior year of high school.

“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated and supported Senior Business Week. We really appreciate it,” senior Arden Sarr said in a news release.
