Arab summit calls on UN forces to protect Palestinians ahead of implementation of two-state solution
Arab leaders on Thursday called for UN peacekeeping forces to be sent to the Palestinian territories to protect civilians before implementing a two-state solution.
The two leaders met at the 33rd Ordinary General Assembly of the Arab League Council held in Manama under the chairmanship of Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and discussed the Gaza War.
In their closing statements, the leaders emphasized the importance of a two-state solution and the need to set deadlines for political processes and negotiations. They called for clear steps to be taken to this end.
They also called for an international conference sponsored by the United Nations to focus on resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on a two-state solution, end the Israeli occupation of all Arab lands, and establish an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international resolutions. .
He added that a sovereign and viable Palestinian state would live side by side with Israel in security and peace.
The leaders ordered Arab foreign ministers to “act immediately to communicate with countries around the world to promptly recognize a Palestinian state.”
