ISLAMABAD:

Just a day after his retirement as additional registrar (judicial), Nazar Abbas was re-employed as director general (judicial wing) — a BPS-21 post — in the Supreme Court on a six-month contract.

The DG judicial wing post has been created for the first time in the apex court.

Last month, a two judge Supreme Court bench had withdrawn a contempt notice issued to the senior staff member for not fixing a case regarding the jurisdiction of regular benches.

Abbas’s basic pay to be fixed in BPS-21 at the stage of last pay, including personal pay to which he was entitled at the date of retirement. All allowances will be admissible to his class of servants under the federal government and Supreme Court rules from time to time, in addition to all ad hoc reliefs. The same will apply to his leaves.

Abbas’ whole-time employment would be at the disposal of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He may be employed in any manner required by appropriate authority without claim for additional remuneration. He shall, at all times, obey the rules prescribed for the time being for the regulation of the service on cadre to which the post, in which he has been employed, belongs.

According to a notification, Abbas will be entitled to 1300cc car, with monthly POL ceiling of 270 liters. He can take car outside the municipal limits of Islamabad subject to the condition that the ceiling of fuel does not exceed. In case, he does not avail the transport, he shall be entitled for monetization to which other federal government servants of his class are entitled.

He shall be entitled to the same facility of accommodation of government-owned or hired residence as is admissible to person of corresponding service/Supreme Court scale.

In respect of all other matters not specified in this contract, the rules/regulation as applicable to the Federal Civil Servants/Supreme Court Establishment shall apply. The notification has been issued with the approval of Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.

It is learnt that there was a sense of uncertainty prevailed among permanent employees of the apex court with regard to re-employments.

Several retired officers have been appointed on key posts and most of them belonged to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) from where CJP Afridi also hails.

SC Registrar Muhammad Saleem Khan himself is a retired officer. Secretaries of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and the Supreme Judicial of Pakistan are also retired officers. Both the posts are recreated after Justice Afridi took the oath as the CJP.
