To make this dish, you need to “stir” the pancake batter, just like you would make eggs. That is, instead of carefully spreading the batter into a round shape or a specific mold, you simply pour the batter and break it up with a spatula while it cooks. This rather unusual method has garnered mixed reactions online; some find it interesting or useful, while others are not in favor of the technique. Check out one of the viral recipes below that has taken multiple social media platforms by storm. It was shared by user @archivedchef and has been viewed over 26 million times on Instagram to date.

As several users pointed out in the comment section, the dish bears a strong resemblance to Kaiserschmarrn, a popular dessert in Austria, Bavaria, and nearby regions. These shredded pancakes are usually served with applesauce and topped with raisins and berries. Literally “emperor’s meal,” the treat was said to be a favorite of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I.
Now, let’s go back to the popular “scrambled pancakes” recipe and read some of the other reactions to it (via Instagram).

“It’s best taken sparingly and in a bowl of milk.”
“I don’t normally eat pancakes, but I’m craving them right now. Scrambled.”
