Security has been stepped up in New York ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in the US and West Indies, following reports of threats, particularly relating to the India vs Pakistan match.

“In preparation for @cricketworldcup, my team has been working with federal and local law enforcement to keep participants safe,” Gov. Kathy Hochle wrote to X, adding that there are “no credible threats at this time.”
According to Reuters, Haukle said in a statement that New York State Police had been instructed to strengthen enforcement, monitoring and vetting procedures in the run up to the games.

ABC News cited a New York Police Department bulletin saying the tournament and related events in New York City could be seen by extremists as an opportunity to commit violence and disruption, Reuters reported.
The move comes following multiple media reports that ISIS-K had called for “lone wolf” attacks on the India-Pakistan World Cup.
Nassau County Police Chief Patrick Ryder said the World Cup had received ISIS-related threats in April and more specific threats during the India-Pakistan match.

The World Cup match between India and Pakistan, which have not had a bilateral series in recent years due to tense political relations, is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world.
The India vs Pakistan match will be held at Eisenhower Park Stadium in Nassau County, New York.
