The Hooters chain told USA Today that at least 44 “underperforming” locations across 14 states across the country have been permanently closed due to “pressures from the current market environment.”
Hooters will continue to open stores both domestically and internationally, as well as launch Hooters frozen meals in grocery stores.
“During these rare circumstances, ensuring the health and wellbeing of our associates is our number one priority,” the statement released on Monday said. “Our 41-year-old brand remains incredibly resilient and relevant, and we look forward to continuing to serve our customers at home, on the go and in our restaurants across the U.S. and around the world.”
The company has not disclosed which Hooters locations have closed or a timeline for the closures, but USA Today made efforts to cross-reference the restaurant’s online listings from February with the current listings as of Tuesday.
Reporters from the USA Today Network found that dozens of Hooters restaurants have closed across the U.S. this week, including in Florida, Texas, Kentucky and Indiana.
