There have been a number of college signings in Savannah over the past two weeks. Here, we take a look at where Coastal Empire athletes are headed to play at the next level.
On Thursday, two St. Andrews players put pen to paper in a ceremony at the Lions’ gymnasium.
Richard Williams was a versatile star on the St. Andrews football team, earning GIAA All-State honors as a receiver, running back, and defensive back. The senior is looking to take his talents to the next level in his hometown, as he has signed a contract to play at Savannah State University.
Williams caught 28 passes for 614 yards and six scores and ran for 766 yards and 13 touchdowns, earning All-State GIAA honors, and also contributed defensively with 32 tackles and two interceptions.
“Playing at St. Andrews prepared me for the next level. Coach (former Lion coach Kevin) Prizant saw potential in me and gave me the opportunity to play a big role in the offense. “And that gave me the opportunity to play in college,” Williams said. “And here at our school, we have strong academics, which has prepared me well as a student-athlete.”
Jalen Shepard moved into the starting point guard role as a senior for the Lions basketball team and played a big role in reaching the state semifinals. He earned All-Region First Team honors and set a school record for assists in a season. Currently, he is heading to Michigan State to play at Grace Christian University.
Coach Mel Abrams said he thinks Shepard has done a great job following in the footsteps of his older brother, Reggie Shepard, who was a standout basketball and football player for the Lions.
“Jalen has grown considerably and was able to build his own legacy at St. Andrews,” Abrams said. “His route to achieving his goals was different. He was a reserve on the basketball team for three years, but when he became a starter this year he made the most of his opportunity. I think he will continue to improve his game in college.”

Jeremiah James was a three-sport standout in football, basketball and baseball during his time at Jenkins, but his future is in doubt as the senior signs to play at Hinds Community College in Mississippi. You will be on top.
James was a jack-of-all-trades for the Warriors, with a reputation as the most athletic player on the team. He played quarterback, receiver and defensive back on a Warrior team that advanced to the Class 5A quarterfinals as a No. 4 seed this year. He will play safety at Hines CC.
“Jeremiah has done everything for us. He’s a whole different kind of athlete,” Jenkins coach Tony Welch said. “Once we moved him primarily to the defensive end, that’s when we moved forward. He’s an All-Region player, our team MVP, and he has the talent to be a Power Five player. I think there is.”

CJ Gaines, a standout guard on the Cavalier basketball team, will join the Missouri State University program as a preferred walk-on. Gaines was named All-Region 3-3A first team as a senior and scored 15.0 points per game for the Cavs.
“Coaching C.J. this season was an easy task,” said Scepter Brownlee, who began coaching the Cavalier program this year. “I never had to worry about effort. CJ is calm and introverted in everything he does except when he’s playing basketball. He has that intensity. Playing at Missouri State University I think it’s going to be an eye-opener, but CJ has the guts to rise up.” Take on the challenge and earn playing time. ”

Antonio Hansenmann, the Cadets’ standout defensive back, signed on May 7 to play at Stetson University.
Hansen Mann is a 6-foot-4, 180-pound free safety who had two interceptions, four passes defended and 31 tackles as a senior.
“Stetson made me the first offer and showed the utmost interest and confidence in me, and that was a big part of my decision,” Hansenman said. “I think playing for coach (Danny) Britt at BC prepared me for college because we take practice very seriously in an intense atmosphere and it made me a better player. Because he made me a player.”
Benedictine senior golfer Tripp Melvin has signed to play at Hiram College, a Division III program in Ohio. Melvin plays for Bacon Park and the Crosswinds and is active in the performing arts in BC.

Josh Quarterman, a standout basketball player who led the Atom Smashers to the Class 3A state title game as a senior, announced he will attend Middle Georgia Prep in the fall.
Quarterman averaged 18.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game, was named Region 3-3A Player of the Year and earned All-Greater Savannah first-team honors for the second year in a row. .
“I felt that in order to achieve my long-term goal of going to Division I or playing at the upper level of Division II, I needed to take a different path,” Quarterman said of signing with the college admissions program. Ta. “This will give me a chance to work on myself and my game.”

Rose Williams signed with Life University in a ceremony on campus Tuesday, becoming the first flag football player from St. Vincent’s University to sign to play at the collegiate level.
Williams played everywhere for the Saints, from receiver to defensive back to quarterback. She earned All-Region 3-3A first team honors on offense and defense during her senior year, and she was selected to the All-Greater Savannah First Team.

Hornets standout senior defensive back Ason Herrin signed a contract to play for Sewanee the University of the South, a Division III program in Tennessee, during a ceremony on the SCD campus Thursday. is.
Herrin recorded 26 tackles for the Hornets, including four for loss and four passes defensed, who finished 7-4 on the season and lost 46-45 to Upson Lee in the first round of the playoffs. I was defeated.

Sidney Polite, Georgia Military University, Soccer
Polite was a standout in net for an Islanders team that won the Region 3-4A title and advanced to the second round of the playoffs. She was named the region’s Goaltender of the Year and recorded 111 saves and eight shutouts on the season.
Amy Silvoy, Georgia Military University, Soccer
Silvoi was named Region 3-4A Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and earned first-team All-Region honors this season with the region champion Sharks.
Palmer Walker, LaGrange College, Lacrosse Club
Walker was a standout goalie for the Sharks, but his senior season was cut short by injury. He also played basketball and ran cross country during his time with the Islanders.
Dillin Weaver, Montreat College, Softball
Weaver was a standout on the Islanders softball team, earning All-Region honors twice and receiving the Coaches Award for her leadership on the team. She signed a contract to play with Montreat College, an NAIA program in North Carolina.
