Thiruvananthapuram:
In the recent Indian Lok Sabha elections, Shashi Tharoor, leader of the Indian National Congress Party, faced a tough fight against Rajiv Chandrasekhar, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, Tharoor has responded to Chandrasekhar’s announcement on Sunday that he is retiring from public service after 18 years.
Chandrasekhar, who served as a minister of state in the previous Narendra Modi government, had initially posted on X about finishing up his term in government but later clarified that he meant that his term as an MP and a minister of state had ended.
He quickly deleted his initial post, saying: “Today marks the end of my 18 years in public service, of which I had the honour of serving PM @narendramodi ji’s TeamModi 2.0 for 3 years. I never intended for my 18 years in public service to end as a losing candidate in an election but that is how it turned out.”
Chandrasekhar deleted the post shortly thereafter and posted a new one saying the previous one was written by an intern and had “created confusion for some people about my future political activities.”
Today marks the end of my 18-year term as a Member of Parliament and three years as a Minister of State in the Council of Ministers under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This tweet was posted by a new young intern on my team, thanking everyone for their inspiration and support during this time.

Reacting to the first post, Tharoor, who retained his Thiruvananthapuram seat, said he had confidence in Chandrasekhar’s ability to continue serving the country.
“As someone who has debated with you on various issues during your time in the government, @RajeevRC_X, I have no doubt that you can contribute more to our country through public service. Entering public service is just one path (and you are still young enough to give it another go!) I wish you all the best for the future,” Tharoor wrote to X.
As someone who has discussed a range of issues with you during your time in Government, I am convinced that you have much more to contribute to our country through your public service. translatorElected office is just one avenue (and you’re still young, so you’ll have another chance to try… https://t.co/7WBE6AFgOB

Chandrasekhar made it clear that his work and efforts to take India forward and Thiruvananthapuram forward as the BJP’s Karyakarta will continue relentlessly as ever.
