Former municipal councillor Shreyas Samel sent shock waves through the party when he said he would contest from Kalyan West seat as there was no major development work taking place in the area.
Notably, Shiv Sena’s MP Vishwanath Boyle is from Kalyan West constituency.
Addressing a press conference in Kalyan on Saturday, Samer announced his intention to contest from Kalyan West constituency.
Samer said, “In the last five years, the work that should have been done by this Congress has not been done. For instance, till now the work on the Bhiwandi-Kalyan metro line has not been started and no big hospital or sports complex has been built. In such a situation, I feel the party should give a chance to an educated youth like me to contest elections from here.”
He is 39 and has also studied BE in Mechanical Engineering and MBA in Marketing. Samel’s father Kiran Samel also served as Municipal Commissioner twice and Deputy Mayor once in the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation.
Following Samer’s request, attention will be focused on who will run in this constituency.
The Mahayuti Party is in a tough position in this constituency. Meanwhile, with the upcoming constituency elections in the constituency, there are more and more candidates from the Shinde Party hoping to contest. Kalyan Mayor Ravi Patil from the Shinde Party has also expressed his desire to contest from the Kalyan (West) constituency.
