ISLAMABAD:

Islamabad High Court (IHC) former judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui has withdrawn his resignation as the chairman of the National Industrial Relations Commissions (NIRC).

Justice (retd) Siddiqui took this decision after a meeting with Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis Secretary Dr Arshad Mahmood. During the meeting, Dr Mahmood lauded Siddiqui’s efforts in expediting pending workers’ cases and ensuring swift justice over the past three months.

Acknowledging the NIRC’s key role in resolving workers’ issues, the secretary urged the former IHC judge to continue serving in the position for the welfare of workers. Justice (retd) Siddiqui later agreed to withdraw his resignation and to continue as NIRC chairman for the betterment of workers.

Previously, he had submitted a one-month notice for his resignation. The federal cabinet had appointed the former IHC judge as NIRC chairman for a three-year term in December 2024.

Justice (retd) Shuakat Aziz Siddiqui was sacked in October 2018 from his position as the IHC’s senior puisne judge in view of a presidential reference filed against him by the PTI led federal government.

The judge moved the Supreme Court against the Supreme Judicial Council’s decision. The apex court, however, took up his case only after his superannuation and in March 2024 set aside the order for his dismissal and revived his status as a former IHC judge.
