LAHORE: As many as 455 Sikhs arrived from India on Friday to take part in celebrations marking the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
They were received at Wagah border in Lahore by Punjab’s first Sikh clergyman and chairman of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC), Ramesh Singh Arora and officials of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB).
“Around 455 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived here from Wagah border on Friday to celebrate the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh,” ETPB’s Ghulam Muhayuddin said. PTI.
He said the Sikh pilgrims were provided complete security and accommodation during their 10-day stay in Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, Arora said that the ETPB has made “excellent preparations” to welcome pilgrims from India. He also informed the guests that restoration work has begun on the Samadhi of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
After their arrival, the pilgrims will depart for Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdar, Rawalpindi, where they will perform religious rituals.
During their 10-day stay, the pilgrims will leave for Nankana Sahib on June 23. During their stay at Gurdwara Janamasthan in Nankana Sahib, they will also visit Gurdwara Satya Sauda in Farrukhabad on June 24.
On June 25, the pilgrims will visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Narowal and spend a day there. They will visit Gurdwara Rohri Sahib in Eminabad on June 27 and then return to Lahore.
The main ceremony to mark the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh will be held on June 29 at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore.
