Sikkim Assembly Elections 2024 Results: The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha returned to power in the Himalayan state’s state assembly elections after winning 31 of the 32 seats, according to the Election Commission. The opposition Sikkim Democratic Front managed to win only one seat. The Sikkim state assembly elections were held on April 19 at the same time as the Lok Sabha elections. The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) is leading in only one constituency. Counting of votes began at 6 am on Sunday, with heavy security measures in place.

In Lenok parliamentary constituency, chief minister and SKM candidate Prem Singh Tamang is leading his nearest SDF rival Som Nath Poudyal by about 4,830 votes. Tamang is also leading his nearest SDF rival AD Subha in the Soren Chakkun parliamentary constituency by 2,052 votes.

Former chief minister and SDF supremo Pawan Kumar Chamling is trailing SKM candidate Raju Basnet in Namchebun constituency by 546 votes. In Pokhrok Kamran parliamentary constituency, Chamling is trailing SKM’s Bhoj Raj Rai by 1,057 votes.

In the Barkhun parliamentary constituency, former Indian footballer and SDF candidate Baichung Bhutia is trailing his SKM rival Riksal Dorje Bhutia by 2,872 votes. Sikkim state BJP chief Dilli Ram Thapa is also trailing his SKM rival Kala Rai in the Upper Bhatuk parliamentary constituency by 1,543 votes.

The results of the Sikkim state assembly elections will be announced today. Voting for the state assembly elections took place on April 19. There are 146 candidates contesting in 32 constituencies, including Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, his predecessor Pawan Kumar Chamling, former India football captain Baichung Bhutia and Tamang’s wife Krishna Kumari Rai.

To form government, a party needs to secure at least 17 seats. The SKM’s win of 17 seats in the 2019 elections brought an end to the Sikkim Democratic Front’s 25-year dominance.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, heading the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) election campaign seeking re-election for a second consecutive term, campaigned vigorously for the state assembly elections in 2024. After wrapping up his campaign, Pawan Kumar Chamling, a five-term former chief minister and leader of the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), interacted with the people of his hometown Namchi, particularly his Pokhrok Kamran constituency.
