Additional $500,000 project and DOE award advances commercial modular design

Burlington, WA, May 20, 2024–(Business Wire)–sil fab solar Continuing its goal of becoming the national leader in next-generation American-made solar cells, the company announced today that it has been selected for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Innovation Award.

The $20 million project will develop a back-contact N-type cell and demonstrate an efficiency of more than 26 percent. The Silfab team is developing these innovations at a new facility in South Carolina with a 300 MW pilot line running in parallel with Silfab’s primary N-type cell manufacturing. The project will enable rapid scale-up of cost-effective back-contact cell technology for mass production of Silfab’s next line of premium photovoltaic modules.

DOE’s Solar Energy Technology Office (SETO) also selected Silfab for another innovation award to further develop high-efficiency building-integrated PV (BIPV) modules in the form of solar spandrels. His two stories of commercial buildings and high-rise buildings where clear glass windows are not required. The $500,000 project, which will be demonstrated at Silfab’s West Coast facility in Washington, focuses on the technical challenges of fusing traditional module manufacturing with glass wall facade construction methods.

“Silfab Solar is committed to leading the way in innovative solar power generation in the United States by investing in research and development that can provide the most advanced, powerful and reliable solar power generation for commercial, residential, and soon BIPV customers. “We are leading the way in battery and module integration.” Paolo Maccario President and CEO of Silfab. “DOE’s award is a testament to Silfab’s commitment to innovation and the strength of our engineering team in delivering significant advances in solar power technology.”

Silfab has once again been selected as one of the few beneficiaries of the SETO Silicon Solar Manufacturing and Dual-Use Solar Power Incubator funding program. Projects in this funding program will enable continued reductions in the cost of solar power while developing the next generation of solar power technology and promoting American solar manufacturing and American jobs.

Over the past few years, Silfab has invested strategic resources to manage its supply chain and manage accelerated, sustainable growth and continued expansion in the U.S. with the goal of launching a solar manufacturing facility. I’ve put it in. Silfab’s newest facility in South Carolina will soon add 1 gigawatt of U.S. cell production and an additional 1.3 gigawatt of module production.

As part of the federal government’s SETO program, which provides benefits to local communities at project locations, Silfab Solar is implementing a series of workforce development initiatives and school assistance programs to encourage young people to consider careers in renewable energy; Other initiatives have begun.
