CTD seizes suicide jacket, three hand grenades, six SMGs, 200 bullets, explosive materials

LAHORE:

Six terrorists were killed by gunfire from their own accomplices while eight others escaped during a Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) operation in Mianwali on Friday, officials said.

According to CTD, they had received intelligence that terrorists were present near Chapri Dam in Chapri area who were planning to attack the police and other security agencies.

During the operation, the terrorists opened fire on the CTD team. In the exchange of gunfire, six terrorists were killed by their own associates’ fire, while eight escaped. The CTD recovered 1 suicide jacket, 3 hand grenades, 6 SMGs, 200 bullets, and other explosive material from the terrorists, the spokesperson added.

Search operations are ongoing to capture the escaped terrorists. CTD teams have cordoned off the Chapri area, and the identification of the killed terrorists is underway.

The spokesperson further said that the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department is diligently pursuing its goal of a safe Punjab and is determined to uproot the menace of terrorism.

In December of last year, Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar issued a high-security alert across Punjab and ordered the immediate launch of sweep and combing operations in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and other districts throughout the province.

The IG Punjab ordered profiling and data verification of all individuals entering the province from other regions. He had said monitoring of all banned organisations, including TLP, must continue regularly, and door-knocking campaigns should be intensified to track potential militants and miscreants.

A total of 100 people were murdered in Mianwali district during 2025, a decline compared to 120 killings reported in 2024, while the figure in earlier years had reached as high as 149.

The murders included incidents stemming from personal enmity, minor disputes, and so-called honour killings. Officials said the decrease indicated an improvement in the law and order situation in the district.
