RAWALPINDI/DERA GHAZI KHAN:

The security forces on Saturday killed six terrorists in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Kalat district of Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

Separately, in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab Police thwarted an attack by terrorists on the Lakhani check post near the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa border, killing two terrorists, the forces’ spokesperson said in a statement.

The military’s media affairs wing said the security forces conducted an IBO in Kalat, Balochistan on the reported presence of terrorists.

“During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and after an intense fire exchange, six terrorists were successfully neutralised,” the ISPR statement said.

It noted that the slain terrorists remained actively involved in “recent terrorist activities” in the area against the law enforcement agencies as well as the innocent civilians.

“Sanitization operation is being conducted in the area to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area, as the security forces of Pakistan, in step with the nation, remain determined to thwart attempts at sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Balochistan,” the ISPR said.

Meanwhile, according to Punjab police, 20 to 25 terrorists launched an attack on Lakhani check post in DG Khan from all directions, using mortar shells and rocket launchers. The assailants also employed sniper rifles and other heavy weaponry in the attack.

The Punjab Police, the Elite Force, and the Special Operations Unit (SOU) personnel defended the check post and forced the terrorists to retreat through a well-coordinated counteroffensive.

The police action resulted in the elimination of two terrorists, with multiple others reportedly injured. All law enforcement personnel remained unscathed during the encounter.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz lauded the police force for foiling the terrorist assault on Lakhani check post.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude to the police for repelling the terrorist assault on the Lakhani check post in Taunsa.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said the provincial government and security agencies were actively fighting terrorism in the province. She noted that the Punjab Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had been equipped with night-vision cameras and modern weapons.

Speaking at a press conference at DGPR, she noted that in the Taunsa-Lakhani check-post attack, the Punjab Police and the CTD bravely confronted terrorists and killed two of the attackers.

Quoting the DG Khan regional police officer, she said terrorists had entered Punjab from the K-P border, and the CTD was taking decisive action against them. She added that information extracted from terrorists arrested in Lahore and Rawalpindi would help in launching further operations.
