advertisementSlovakia’s parliament reconvened on Tuesday for the first time since the shooting of Prime Minister Robert Fico nearly a week ago.
In a landmark resolution, all 130 MPs present voted for all political parties, civil society organizations and media to respect the election results and refrain from spreading hatred against the democratically elected government.
The move follows a public outcry over the attack on the prime minister, which many say stems from the toxic atmosphere and lies surrounding Slovak politics.
Prime Minister Fico was taken to FD Roosevelt Hospital in Banská Bystrica in central Slovakia after being shot multiple times and remains in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
He underwent a five-hour surgery immediately after the attack, and another two hours afterward. surgery last Friday.
According to medical staff, the man is “conscious and able to speak.”
Meanwhile, the investigation into the attack continues. A male suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident on Wednesday.
A court ordered the suspect detained after police searched his apartment.
Officials initially said the gunman was likely a lone wolf. But on Sunday, they said he may have received help from someone else.
