Netflix is getting into the popcorn business.

The streaming giant is expanding its direct-to-consumer business with a foray into snacks, partnering with Popcorn Indiana to launch a line of popcorn branded Netflix: Now Popping, which will be available in Walmart stores nationwide starting today.

Some of the flavors available include “Cult Classic Cheddar Kettle Corn” and “Soonworthy Cinnamon Kettle Corn.”

In fact, Netflix isn’t the first entertainment company to explore the world of popcorn, nor is it the first to collaborate with Walmart on a popcorn line.

In 2021, AMC Theatres announced plans to expand into the snack category to include both microwavable and bagged snacks, and last year the company announced its own deal with Walmart to sell both varieties.

In fact, popcorn has become even bigger business for movie theaters, fueled by collectible popcorn containers like the viral “Popcorn Box.” Dune: Part 2 Containers (search for them on Google) or Deadpool and Wolverine offering.

Meanwhile, Netflix is also working to build out its consumer and live events businesses, aiming to generate revenue streams beyond streaming.

Netflix launched an online shop selling merchandise for its shows in 2021 and later opened a pop-up store at The Grove in Los Angeles.

Netflix also opened a pop-up restaurant in Los Angeles called Netflix Bites, which serves menus designed by chefs featured on the show, and has created interactive experiences based on the show in New York, Los Angeles and other markets, including: Bridgerton and Squid Game.

Next year, the company will open its first two Netflix Houses in Texas and Pennsylvania, essentially combining all of the above by offering a mix of shopping, dining and experiences in what was once a department store.

They might even sell popcorn.
