HYDERABAD:

Protests erupted across Sindh on Sunday to condemn the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the attacks by the US and Israel on the neighbouring country. Religious leaders and party officials took to the streets, while Sindhi nationalist parties also condemned what they described as an unjust war imposed on Iran.

Jamaat-e-Islami organised a symbolic Namaz-e-Janaza for Khamenei at Koh-e-Noor Chowk in Hyderabad. The Milli Yakjahti Council, representing several religious parties, announced nationwide protests to mourn Khamenei. The council’s head Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair chaired an online meeting in Hyderabad before unveiling the demonstration plans. He accused US President Donald Trump of being “the key architect of this evil conspiracy,” saying the United States employs “lies, deceit, and aggression to cheat the world.” Zubair also condemned the imposition of war on Muslim countries during the holy month of Ramazan and warned that nuclear-armed Pakistan could also become a target.

Protests were also staged by Shia Ulema Council, Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen, Asgharia Students Organisation, Imamia Students Organisation, Jafaria Students Organisation and other groups in major and smaller towns across Sindh, expressing solidarity with the Iranian people. President of Qaumi Awami Tehreek Ayaz Latif Palijo expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of Khamenei and hundreds of innocent Iranians, including women and children, blaming the United States for “trying to set the world on fire” and for targeting countries to control their oil.

Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi stated that the people of Sindh stand in full support of Iran against the unprovoked assault. He called Khamenei “a brave man of principles who never bowed before imperial powers.”

Awami Tehreek President Advocate Vasand Thari said “Khamenei’s martyrdom will write a new chapter in the history of humanity about resistance against global imperialism,” and condemned violations of international laws and human rights by the US and Israel.

The protests highlighted widespread outrage across Sindh, with religious and political leadership calling for justice, solidarity with Iran, and peaceful demonstration against what they described as an imperialist onslaught.
