When asked why UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak decided to call an early election, Andrew said: “Even some of my Conservative colleagues are questioning it, because the opinion polls were so strong against him.”
Nirupama says India-UK relations will change depending on the outcome of the polls. “If Labour is re-elected with a landslide majority and Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not get an equal majority, India’s negotiating strength in trade talks will be affected.”
On the NEET controversy, Abhinandan said he had received many requests to highlight the issue in comparison with the farmers’ protests. “One possible reason is that doctors are available to see farmers but poor farmers are not,” Shardul said. Pointing out the scale of the controversy, Raman said nearly 2.3 million students sat the NEET exam this year. “If we include their families, the number of people affected will run into crores.”
