Swansea plan to cut loan deals

Swansea City manager Luke Williams said he wants to reduce the number of temporary signings next season after finishing last season with six loan players.

Swansea’s first-choice goalkeeper for the 2023-24 season, Carl Rushworth, is on season-long loan from Brighton, while their top scorer with 10 goals, Jamal Rowe, is also on loan from Bournemouth.

Newcastle United full-back Harrison Ashby, Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys and Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino have also joined on one-year loan deals, while another Arsenal youngster, Charles Sago Jr, joined in January, giving the Swansea.com Stadium a total of six loan players.

Given the financial constraints of a club like Swansea and the number of young Premier League players available for loan, it would be a shock if Williams does not have any loan players in his 2024-25 squad.

However, the Swansea manager says he plans to make further permanent signings during the current transfer window.

“The loan market can be fantastic at the right time,” Williams told BBC Sport Wales.

“I wouldn’t say we won’t have loan players, but I think we’ll do our best to avoid having six loan players again.

“Unless we find ourselves in a position where we need to take out further loans, I expect the loans will be significantly less than last season.”
