Pakistan cricket team is in a tough T20 World Cup 2024. After losing back-to-back matches against USA and India, they managed to stay in the tournament with a win over Canada. They still have to rely on the USA vs Ireland match, but the match against Ireland is now in uncertainty due to a flood emergency declared in Florida, USA.
The Pakistan vs Ireland match is scheduled for Sunday, June 16 at the Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium in Florida. It will be a “life or death” match for Pakistan. However, many parts of Florida are experiencing devastating floods due to multiple water sources overflowing beyond their limits.
“The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a flood emergency due to major to catastrophic flooding in Miami-Dade, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood and Miramar, Florida. Officials say this is a devastating and life-threatening situation as ongoing stationary thunderstorms are producing heavy downpours causing extreme flooding. Reports indicate multiple homes and roads are flooded and multiple water rescues have been conducted. Estimates are that 10-17+ inches of rain have fallen over a wide area in the past 24 hours, possibly exceeding 20 inches in some areas, causing life-threatening flooding. Many roads have been closed due to high water levels,” Rawalerts said in a post by X.
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Scenario
Florida’s changeable weather conditions are not good for the Pakistan cricket team and its fans as the match against Ireland is a ‘life or death’ match and if the match is rained out, both teams will get only one point and Pakistan’s journey to the T20 World Cup 2024 will end.
For Pakistan to progress to the Super 8 stage they will need to win their match against Ireland and hope that Ireland can beat the United States by a large margin.
Reactions of Internet users
Cricket fans had mixed reactions to the Florida flood emergency, with some blaming the Pakistan cricket team and others expressing disappointment. “Qudrat Ka Nizam is trying to eliminate Pakistan from the tournament,” posted one user on X.
“Reports suggest Florida’s drainage system is not good. The rain needs to stop completely tonight to have any chance of the USA v Ireland match happening tomorrow,” said another.
