T20 World Cup 2024 schedule: Pakistan to open against USA, take on India in New York

Pakistan have appeared in three T20 World Cup finals, winning once in 2009, making them a force to be reckoned with in the history of this mega event. In 2022, Babar Azam’s team finished as runners-up after a tough defeat to Jos Buttler’s England in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Babar could not bring glory to the men in green in Australia, but they have a chance to redeem themselves this time around.

Pakistan will kick off their campaign against the United States on Thursday, June 6, at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. They recently lost 0-2 to England in a T20I series that was almost ruined by rain. Though the US is not the top-ranked team, Pakistan may have to work hard to beat them after winning the series against Najmul Hossain Shanto’s Bangladesh 2-1.

Pakistan will next travel to New York to take on arch rivals India on Sunday, June 9, at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Pakistan have beaten India just once before, by 10 wickets in Dubai in 2021. In the last encounter at the MCG, Virat Kohli helped India smash defeat from the brink.

After a tense and hard-fought match, Pakistan will now face Canada on June 11. The final Group A match against Paul Stirling’s Ireland will be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida on June 16.

Pakistan’s group schedule for T20 World Cup 2024:

Pakistan vs USA – Thursday, June 6, Texas

Pakistan v India – Sunday, June 9, New York

Pakistan v Canada – Tuesday, June 11, New York

Pakistan v Ireland – Sunday 16 June, Florida

Two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super 8. Pakistan are among the favourites to progress to the next round, but Babar’s team should not let their guard down as they have Ireland in their group and even the US and Canada could spring a surprise.
