Counting of votes for the state assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha began at 8 am.
The Odisha Assembly elections are aimed at electing 147 members to the state assembly. The state voted for the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections simultaneously in four phases from May 13 to June 1. The ruling Biju Janata Dal is seeking re-election in the state under Naveen Patnaik, who has been the chief minister for over 24 years. The BJD is contesting 147 seats, the BJP 147 seats, the Indian National Congress 145 seats and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) 7 seats.
In Andhra Pradesh, state assembly elections were held along with the Lok Sabha elections on May 13.
Seeking re-election, the YSRCP contested all 175 seats on its own, while the TDP fielded candidates in 144. The Jana Sena Party (JSP) led by Pawan Kalyan contested 21 seats and the BJP contested 10. Key candidates included Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (YSRCP), TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu and JSP’s Pawan Kalyan.

As of 11:30 am, the BJP had a majority in Odisha despite the BJD winning 49 seats.
As of 11 am, the BJP was leading in 71 seats, while the ruling BJD had won 40. In third place was the Indian National Congress, which was leading with 11 seats.
The TDP is leading in Andhra Pradesh with 131 seats, while the YSR Congress is lagging behind with only 21 seats.
As of 10 am, the BJP made a big advance in Odisha, winning 58 seats. The ruling BJD was lagging behind with three seats, while the Congress was in third place with 13 seats.
As of 10 am, the TDP was leading in Andhra Pradesh with 123 seats, while the ruling YSR Congress party was lagging behind with 22 seats.
In Odisha, the BJP made significant gains with 28 seats, while the ruling BJD is leading with 18. The Indian National Congress party gained seats in two constituencies.

Voting has begun for the state assembly elections in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Exit polls project an increase in the BJP’s vote share, while the Indian National Congress is expected to remain a distant third with around 4% of the vote.
According to Axis My India exit polls, the BJD and BJP are expected to win between 62 and 80 seats in Odisha’s 147-seat Legislative Assembly. The Indian National Congress is expected to win between five and eight seats.
The exit polls further projected that the BJP would get 48 percent of the votes, while the BJD would get 42 percent.
In the 2019 state assembly elections, the BJD led by Naveen Patnaik won a landslide victory, winning 112 of the state’s 147 seats. Patnaik became the state’s fifth consecutive chief minister since 2000. In 2019, the BJP won 23 seats, while the Indian National Congress won nine.
