NEW YORK (AP) — Tyler Adams, Gio Reyna, Matt Turner and Tim Ream barely played in the final three months of the club season, but now have three weeks to prepare for the Copa America. He will be training with the US team to regain his sharpness.

“We have friendly matches to build up their fitness and prepare them.” U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter announced his 27-man squad for a pre-tournament friendly against Colombia on June 8 in Landover, Maryland, and against Brazil four days later in Orlando, Florida. , he said on Monday.

Players will report and practice in Bethesda, Maryland, from May 28 to June 2.

The 26-man Copa America roster is scheduled for June 15th, with the U.S. opening the season against Bolivia on June 23rd in Arlington, Texas.

Berhalter is looking ahead to the next two years when the U.S. co-hosts the World Cup, and his goal is to “We’re really trying to get to 2026. That’s the main objective here.”

Adams, the captain of the U.S. national team, played only one game for the club from March 2023 to March 13 of this year due to a torn right hamstring that required surgery.

The midfielder returned in March with two appearances for Bournemouth, but back spasms limited him to just one appearance for the rest of the season, an 11-minute appearance on 11 May.

Forward Josh Sargent, who last played at the World Cup for the United States and scored 16 goals in 26 league games for Norwich, was playing with swelling in his foot.

“This training camp is going to be about balance.” Berhalter said.

Reyna played just 280 league minutes for Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the season, but played 235 minutes for Nottingham Forest after being loaned out on 31 January. He did not play at all after April 28th.

“I don’t think there’s any more pressure on Gio.” Berhalter said. “All he has to do is continue to do what he has been doing with our team so far. He has performed very well over the last nine months and has shown that he can be an important part of this team. Ta”

The goaltenders selected were Matt Turner, Ethan Horvath, and Shawn Johnson.

Turner lost his starting spot at Nottingham Forest after a series of weak conceded goals, making just one appearance for the club since 28 February and not appearing in a game since 2 April.

Zach Steffen made his return to Major League Soccer and was dropped despite starting 14 games.

“Zach is doing pretty well in Colorado.” Berhalter said. “My message to Zac is that this is not a permanent status that will keep him out. We go into this tournament with the same three goalkeepers that we thought worked very well in the last World Cup. I’m looking forward to it. Matt is number one right now.”

Ream lost his starting role at Fulham late in the season. The 36-year-old started and captained the Cottage in Sunday’s final game of the season, his first appearance since February 17.

Players left out of the 2022 World Cup squad include defenders Aaron Long, DeAndre Yedlin and Walker Zimmerman, midfielders Kellyn Acosta and Cristian Roldan, and forwards Jesus Ferreira and Jordan Morris. It was

Haji Wright, who scored 16 goals in 44 league games for Coventry, could be converted from striker to winger, with Balogun, Pepi and Sargent likely to remain as strikers.

Only four players are from MLS: goaltender Johnson, defenders Shaq Moore and Myles Robinson, and midfielder Timmy Tillman.

Defender Bryan Reynolds, midfielder Aidan Morris and winger Kevin Paredes were left out as they are registered in the Olympic under-23 squad.
