The contest will be the first in the Los Angeles area, which also includes No. 6 overall finishers UCLA and Grand Canyon. The matchup between the Hokies and Aztecs will take place at 6 p.m. ET on ESPNU at Easton Stadium and will be broadcast by Courtney Lyle (play-by-play) and Daniel Lowry (analyst).
Tech (39-12-1 ACC, 18-6 ACC) entered the district tournament on a somewhat cold winning streak, losing to No. 6 seed Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament and dropping the series at Syracuse. But that doesn’t faze the team.
“We’re taking it day by day,” D’Amour said. “I’m more confident now. I think we’re in a good spot. It feels eerily similar to ’21. We were a No. 2 seed and lost to the West… but that’s what clutch hitting is. That’s what we are.” We were able to get a good count. It’s important to get a lot of walks right now. ”
Meanwhile, the Aztecs (31-18, 15-7 Mountain West) won the Mountain West Conference Tournament title behind Mountain West Co-Player of the Year Mac Barbara. They showed they weren’t afraid of Power Five teams earlier this season, defeating then-No. 1 Illinois and Nebraska. 11 Missouri State and his then-No. 25 Kentucky.
