BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday, following an order issued by Raj Bhawan, has retained the home, finance and several other ministries for himself and assigned functions to the Council of Ministers.
Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo has been appointed head of the Agriculture, Farmers Support and Energy department.
Another deputy chief minister, Pravati Parida, a newly appointed state assembly member and the only woman in the 16-member council, has been appointed to the women and child development, Mission Shakti and tourism departments.
Majhi was sworn in as the state’s first BJP chief minister on Wednesday.
Other departments over which the Prime Minister oversees the government include general administration, public grievance management, information and public relations, water resources, and planning and containment.
Veteran BJP leader Suresh Pujari has been given the charge of revenue and disaster management, while farmer leader Ravi Narayan Naik has been given the rural development, panchayati raj and drinking water departments.
According to the statement, tribal leader Nithyananda Gond was given the charge of Schools and Mass Education, ST&SC Development, Welfare of Minorities and Backward Classes, Social Security and Empowerment of Disabled departments.
