The Y2K trend seems to be making a comeback in just about every form, and the next Y2K style to make a big splash is the side-swept bangs. While millennials might look back on this trend and shudder, these six idols prove that a more modern version of the trend can look amazing. Plus, there are so many variations on this style to match whatever cut you’re loving right now.
1. Gisele from aespa
Gen Z icon Giselle of aespa is always at the forefront of fashion. Her side-swept bangs are a direct copy of the early 2000s style, but she keeps it from looking too tacky by adding some fun accessories. If you want to totally follow this trend, follow in Giselle’s footsteps.
2. NMIXX’s Hyewon
If you’re looking to soften your side bangs a little, take a look at this tip from NMIXX’s Hyewon, who also loves growing out her existing bangs. By keeping the side part relatively subtle and adding volume at the roots, the style looks natural and effortless without looking too flat.
3. Billy’s Luck
If you already have short bangs but want a dramatic side-swept look, Billie’s “Tsuki” is perfect for you. This asymmetrical style has a slight wave to give it some shape, plus a small hairpiece in the middle of your forehead that adds a lot of flair to this basic look.
4. Minju from ILLIT
This style from ILLIT’s Minju is perfect for those who aren’t ready to cut their bangs yet, but still want to try something new. Minju keeps her bangs super long and layered, creating a side-swept look that doesn’t completely cover her forehead or get in the way of her flattering figure. Plus, it’s easier to style than other side bangs.
5. Red Velvet’s Seulgi
Another style that works really well when you’re trying to grow out the bangs you already have are Seulgi’s thin, grown-out bangs on her forehead. The light color and cut keep it from looking too heavy, but the great thing about this style is that you can work with what you have and find something that suits you.
6. IVE’s Jang Wonyoung
If you already have classic straight-cut bangs, don’t worry; you can still give this style a try. IVE’s Jang Won Young parts her bangs slightly to the side, softening the asymmetry a bit with thin, face-framing bangs. It may take a bit of practice to master, but it adds a statement look to this classic style.
