Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq was not included in the Pakistan Champions XI that played against India in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) final in Birmingham on Saturday, but more than that, his absence from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee continues to haunt him.

Razzak and former teammate Wahab Riaz were sacked by the PCB selection committee following the team’s disastrous performance at the T20 World Cup, where Babar Azam’s side failed to progress beyond the group stage after losing to India and the United States.

There have also been allegations of favouritism against the pair, which they deny.

But the focus of the Pakistani TV talk show that Razzaq joined from Birmingham was the WCL final between India and Pakistan. Ahead of the final, which India won and claimed the trophy on Saturday, Razzaq was asked on the show by former Pakistan fast bowler Sikander Bakht whether the Pakistan team had been promised any support or prize money by the PCB if they beat India.

Razzak’s response sent all the panellists and social media into an uproar, with clips from the show being posted by users to “X.”

“Please tell us if the team received any support or message from the PCB like, ‘If you win the trophy, we will award you $10,000’,” Bakht asked Razak.

The former Pakistan all-rounder responded to the question with a twist. “I have received a termination notice,” Razzaq replied on a light note, relating it to his dismissal as a selector.

After being removed from the selection committee, Razzaq spoke about the allegations against him and Riaz and said the selection of players for the T20 World Cup was a joint decision of the committee.

“How do I motivate the other selection committee members in choosing the team?” he said.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Pakistan champions lost the WCL final to the Indian champions by five wickets.

Yuvraj Singh helped India reach the target of 157 runs in 19.1 overs. Ambati Rayudu (50) opened the scoring with a quick half-century, followed by important contributions from Yusuf Pathan (30*) and Gurkeerat Singh Mann (34).
